Hispanic Heritage Month 2022

From September 15th to October 15th, the ALKrew celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month! Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives are at the heart of ALKU’s culture. This month as a company, we held ourselves accountable to further educate ourselves on the Hispanic Heritage history and culture. 

This month is an opportunity for the ALKrew to appreciate and honor the Hispanic community’s history, heritage, and contributions to the nation over the years.  

The ‘Krew kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month by partnering with our Unity Employee Resource Group (ERG). Employees from Unity were highlighted on our internal communication platform, where they shared their ethnic background, what Hispanic Heritage Month means to them, and prominent figures they admire in their community. Unity also gathered various organizations to share weekly for the ‘Krew to support. Additionally, lists of TV shows, movies, games, and recipes created, starring, or relating to Hispanic Heritage were shared internally.

On September 28th, Unity had an open meeting where they shared personal testimonials, educational resources, and food! The ALKrew put their knowledge of Hispanic Heritage month to the test with a fun and educational game of Kahoot! Following the open meeting, the ‘Krew enjoyed Salsa dancing.  

A huge thank you to Unity for educating the ALKrew all Hispanic Heritage Month long. Celebrating this month helps bring us all together to share awareness and make a difference, and the ALKrew did just that. Now that Hispanic Heritage month is behind us, we encourage everyone at ALKU to celebrate Hispanic Heritage and be an ally every day of the year.
